How old are you? 36
What do you do for a living? I'm an Attorney.
What got you interested in watches and what do you love about them?
My interest in horology started strong in early 2010, so relatively recently. I love that they are a portable/wearable combination of history, fine craftsmanship, technology and art.
Do you have a favorite watch brand? If so, what is it and why?
Hate to admit it, but Rolex. I currently own other brands including Audemars Piguet, Patek Phillipe and Panerai, but always seem to be drawn back to Rolex. They are built like tanks, seem to have less servicing issues, hold value tremendously well and are an easy "flip" if I ever want to get rid of them.
What watch(es) are getting your wrist time lately?
I just acquired a Rolex Rose-Gold Day Date II (Ref. 218235 ) so I expect that will be getting a lot of attention in the coming weeks and months. Earlier this year I picked up a Stainless Steel Yacht Master II (Ref. 116680); a reference that was really out of my comfort zone as I tend to be drawn to “modern classics,” but something I have really been enjoying lately.
What watch that you own or owned had the best story you could share?
My first trip to Paris was in December of 2012. My wife and I went over to spend the holidays with her family. Once we were done taking in Paris, I spent some time in "watch heaven.” The Place Vendome and the blocks surrounding it include boutiques for just about every watch brand imaginable (a massive three story Rolex boutique, a cozy Patek Phillipe boutique and a classy Jaeger LeCoultre boutique in the Place Vendome itself).
On my watch tour I stumbled across the Audemars Piguet boutique without knowing much about the brand and fell in love with the then recently released Royal Oak 15400 (a new take on Gerald Genta’s classic Royal Oak). Naturally I had to have it and flew home with a spontaneous-buy-white-dialed-15400. At least I got to recover the sales tax refund at Charles de Gaulle airport…

What advice would you give someone just starting out as a watch enthusiast?
Don’t be too aggressive with your budget. If you overspend and worry too much about the money, you won’t enjoy it as much as you should.
