What is your name? Dr. John G
How old are you? 66
What do you do for a living? Chiropractic physician
What got you interested in watches and what do you love about them?I started watching the watch shows on Shop NBC and then started reading watch magazines.
Do you have a favorite watch brand? If so, what is it and why?
I like the upscale models: Omega, Maurice Lacroix, Ulysses Nardin, Audemars Piguet, Rolex, and A. Lange & Sohne. I appreciate their craftsmanship and feel on the wrist.
What watch(es) are getting your wrist time lately?
My main watches are a Rolex Datejust 'Thunderbird', Omega Speedmaster Professional and a Maurice Lacroix Pontos Power Reserve,
What watch that you own or owned had the best story you could share?
My mother-in-law lives with us and is something of a pack rat. One day she shows me a beautiful Breitling that was her husband's. It was in great shape as he did not wear it much. However the case and crystal were loose and it did not run. Long story short - after the watch was sent to England, Merritt Island FL and Pennsylvania for repairs, it is in fine working order. It is an 18K Chronomat from about about 1950 (pictured at top). A nice vintage piece.
What advice would you give someone just starting out as a watch enthusiast?
Take your time and pick your pieces with thought. I think it is better to have quality than quantity. Read as many magazines and books that you can, talk to other collectors and read blogs. In the end, be careful in where and what you buy.
