An Introduction to Wrist Times

May 15, 2014 by Dave Pinke in about

Collecting watches is becoming a larger and larger hobby for both men and women these days. Jay Z and Kanye West brought Hubot, Audemars Piguet and Rolex ('Rollies') into common parlance. J.Crew started pushing Timex on Nato straps. Michael Kors blew up the wrists of every girl in your office with faux-rose gold chronographs. Apple, Samsung, Pebble and others are working hard to push smart watches harder than ever in the coming years.

"My Audemars like Mardi Gras, that's Swiss time and that's excellence" - Pusha T

In the meantime, my two favorite blogs were slowly growing in readership and shedding light on the once private spaces where Patek, Breguet, A.Lange & Sohne and others used to hide their beauty on the wrists of the ultra elite. Ariel Adams (ABlogToWatch) was furiously posting his news breaking posts while Benjamin Clymer (Hodinkee), with hipster affect akin to Monocle magazine, makes amazing content alongside some of the most fascinating watch collectors today. Both of them have had a tremendous impact on me and got me up to speed in terms of being a knowledgeable collector. I participate on TheRolexForums and the subreddit /r/watches as I collect, flip, expand and contract my own collection.

Wrist Times is a blog, not focused on the latest watch news, but instead the people and culture of watch collecting. I will be bringing you:

  • Profiles of watch collectors (like you!)
  • Retrospective reviews of timepieces and accessories
  • Topics about timepieces
  • Buying tips and maintenance tricks
  • A look at watches currently for sale

Collecting watches to me has been about choosing beautiful, stylish machines wisely in a very wide field of options and price points. There is a ton of opportunity cost each time you pick up a new watch and my goal is to put together a watch blog about what I feel truly deserves your attention and wrist time.

Best,

Dave
